Texas ICE custody death sparks homicide probe in local case
Rochester-area man Geraldo Lunas Campos, 55, died Jan. 3 in ICE custody at Camp East Montana near El Paso, Texas. The death is being treated as a homicide by a Washington Post report citing an official, with a fellow detainee alleging Campos was choked during segregation after becoming disruptive and ICE saying staff provided lifesaving aid before EMS pronounced him dead; a toxicology report will determine the final cause. Campos, a Cuban citizen who lived in Henrietta and had prior Rochester convictions, was arrested in Rochester during an immigration operation and later transferred to the Texas detention facility for removal proceedings that were stalled by travel-document issues.
