"Spectacular Solar Tornado Captured in Mesmerizing Space Video"

Astrophotographer Miguel Claro captured a stunning solar tornado in motion above the sun's atmosphere. The tornado, caused by solar magnetic fields twisting in a spiral, was captured in a 4K high-resolution solar movie comprising 290 images over the course of about two hours. The footage shows the evolution of the giant plasma shape, which grew in size during the photo session. The video also captured a possible coronal mass ejection, a stream of charged particles from the sun.

Giant Solar Tornado Spotted on Sun, Hurling Plasma into Space.

Astrophotographers Andrew McCarthy and Jason Guenzel have produced a stunning image of the Sun with a solar tornado spinning off it that’s as tall as 14 Earths. McCarthy captured over 200,000 images and worked with Guenzel over five days on the data to create the 140-megapixel picture. The pair managed to get an unprecedented level of detail into their photo which McCarthy says is his “most detailed Sun picture.” The image is a blend of science and art, combining over 90,000 images meticulously layered and processed to reveal the star in a way never seen before.

Unprecedented Solar Activity: Massive Tornado and Debris Eruptions Threaten Earth

NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory captured a solar tornado swirling across the north pole of the sun, which grew to the height of around 75,000 miles, or 14 Earths, before collapsing into a cloud of magnetized gas. The collapse of the solar tornado ejected material from the sun's atmosphere into the surrounding space, but it will not affect our planet. The sun has been fairly productive over the past days, with six sunspots currently visible on the star's disk, and two coronal holes spewing large quantities of speedy solar wind, which might trigger geomagnetic storms at Earth in the coming days.

Unprecedented Solar Tornado Erupts on Sun.

NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory captured footage of a solar tornado, nearly 10 times the height of Earth, made up of hot plasma caught in competing magnetic fields. Astrophotographers Andrew McCarthy and Apollo Lasky also captured the event, which was estimated to be moving at 310,000 mph and have a temperature of around 450,000 degrees Fahrenheit. Solar tornadoes are related to solar flares and occur multiple times a year.
