"Unveiling the Hidden Atmosphere of the Sun: Astounding Composite of 90000 Images"

Astrophotographers Andrew McCarthy and Jason Guenzel have created a stunning composite image of the sun's atmosphere, using approximately 90,000 individual images to showcase the usually invisible solar corona. The image, called "Fusion of Helios," blends science and art to reveal the textured, fiery details of the sun's outermost layer. The image features jets of plasma known as spicules and a towering column that stretches the same height as 14 planet Earths. Prints of the image are available in both McCarthy's and Guenzel's shops.

Giant Solar Tornado Spotted on Sun, Hurling Plasma into Space.

Astrophotographers Andrew McCarthy and Jason Guenzel have produced a stunning image of the Sun with a solar tornado spinning off it that’s as tall as 14 Earths. McCarthy captured over 200,000 images and worked with Guenzel over five days on the data to create the 140-megapixel picture. The pair managed to get an unprecedented level of detail into their photo which McCarthy says is his “most detailed Sun picture.” The image is a blend of science and art, combining over 90,000 images meticulously layered and processed to reveal the star in a way never seen before.

Basking in the Brilliance of the Sun.

Astrophotographers Andrew McCarthy and Jason Guenzel have produced a stunning image of the Sun called "Fusion of Helios" by combining data from over 90,000 individual images using a custom-modified hydrogen alpha solar telescope. The image reveals intricate details within the solar chromosphere, including spicules, prominences, and filaments. McCarthy uses a heat-tuned hydrogen alpha filter with an energy rejection filter on a simple 5” doublet refractor to safely observe the sun's atmosphere. Prints and digital downloads of the image are available in various sizes.
