Leftover Noodles Lead to Limb Loss for Two Students

A 19-year-old man in New England had all 10 fingers and his lower legs amputated after eating a friend's leftover chicken, rice, and lo mein noodles. He suffered from shock, a rash, and multiple organ failure due to meningococcal disease caused by blood poisoning. The individual only had a single dose of the meningococcal conjugate vaccine, with no booster. He also had a history of smoking, marijuana use, alcohol consumption, and recreational cough and antihistamine medication use. The patient made a good recovery from the illness.
