NASA Faces Challenges with Aging ISS and Spacewalk Equipment

NASA is addressing safety concerns related to the aging International Space Station (ISS) and its extravehicular mobility unit (EMU) spacesuits, which have been in use since the 1980s. Recent issues include a coolant leak during a planned spacewalk and a persistent leak on the Russian side of the ISS. NASA and Roscosmos are managing these challenges while planning for future commercial space stations and next-generation spacesuits. Despite these issues, NASA emphasizes safety and collaboration with Russian counterparts.

NASA to Address Hubble Telescope Issues in Rare Press Conference

NASA will hold a rare press conference to address the Hubble Space Telescope entering safe mode due to a malfunctioning gyroscope. The telescope, which requires at least three gyroscopes to operate fully, has faced multiple gyro failures since its last refurbishment in 2009. While a private mission led by Jared Isaacman has been proposed to service Hubble, it carries significant risks. The press conference will provide updates on Hubble's operational status and future plans.

"Ed White's Historic Spacewalk: America's First in 1965"

On June 3, 1965, astronaut Ed White became the first American to walk in space during the Gemini 4 mission. White spent about 20 minutes outside the capsule, using a hand-held propulsion gun before it ran out of fuel. Despite the challenges, White described the experience as "tremendous" and was reluctant to return to the capsule. Tragically, White died less than two years later in the Apollo 1 cabin fire. His historic spacewalk paved the way for future space exploration.
