"Ed White's Historic Spacewalk: America's First in 1965"

On June 3, 1965, astronaut Ed White became the first American to walk in space during the Gemini 4 mission. White spent about 20 minutes outside the capsule, using a hand-held propulsion gun before it ran out of fuel. Despite the challenges, White described the experience as "tremendous" and was reluctant to return to the capsule. Tragically, White died less than two years later in the Apollo 1 cabin fire. His historic spacewalk paved the way for future space exploration.
