Trump halts Rhode Island wind farm project, sparking local criticism

The Trump administration has ordered a halt to construction on the nearly complete Revolution Wind offshore wind farm off Rhode Island, citing national security concerns, which threatens the project's future and Rhode Island's renewable energy goals. Orsted, the developer, plans to evaluate legal options while state officials vow to fight the order, emphasizing the project's importance for local jobs and climate commitments.

Vineyard Wind Turbine Blade Damaged, Debris Washes Ashore

A Vineyard Wind turbine blade was damaged over the weekend, leading to an investigation by the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement and GE Vernova. Operations at the wind farm are halted, and a safety perimeter has been established. Debris from the turbine has been reported and is being collected. The incident is isolated to a single turbine, and no injuries were reported.

"World's Largest Offshore Wind Farm Powers Millions of Homes"

The Dogger Bank Wind Farm, described as the "world's largest offshore wind farm," has produced its first power off the coast of northeast England. The project, developed in three phases, will have a total capacity of 3.6 gigawatts once fully operational and is expected to power up to 6 million homes per year. The wind farm is using GE Vernova's Haliade-X turbines and is transmitting electricity to the UK's national grid via a high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system, marking the first-time use of HVDC technology on a UK wind farm. The project is seen as a significant boost to UK energy security and its efforts to tackle climate change.

US Approves Fourth Major Offshore Wind Farm, Revolution Wind, for Construction

The US Department of the Interior has approved Revolution Wind, a 704-megawatt offshore wind farm off the coasts of Rhode Island and Connecticut. This marks the fourth major offshore wind farm approved by the US, following Vineyard Wind, South Fork Wind, and Ocean Wind 1. Revolution Wind is expected to begin construction activities soon and come online in 2025, delivering clean energy to over 350,000 households and creating around 1,200 local jobs. The approval supports the Biden administration's goal of achieving 30 GW of offshore wind by 2030.

"UK and Netherlands to Build Cross-Border Power Link for Energy Security Boost"

The Netherlands and the UK are planning to build a cross-border electricity link, called "LionLink", which will be connected to an offshore wind farm. The interconnector will be able to transfer 1.8 GW of power to Britain from a Dutch wind farm, or the same volume of electricity produced in Britain to the Netherlands. The link will move enough surplus power between the countries to power the Dutch province of Zuid-Holland, or the British cities of Birmingham and Manchester combined. The project is part of a broader pledge by nine countries around the North Sea to develop renewable energy in the region and avoid over-dependence on a single foreign source like Russia.
