Regulatory T cells (Tregs), which are responsible for immune system regulation, may also play a role in mood stabilization and cognitive function. Decreased expression of the transcription factor Foxp3, which controls Tregs, has been linked to major depressive disorders. Depleting Tregs in mice led to increased anxiety and depressive behaviors, which were reversed when Foxp3-expressing cells were restored. Additionally, mice with depleted Tregs showed cognitive impairments similar to those seen in Alzheimer's disease. This suggests a potential connection between immune responses, mood disorders, and cognitive decline.

Just 30 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise can help improve sleep quality, according to Charlene Gamaldo, medical director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Sleep. Moderate aerobic exercise increases the amount of slow wave sleep a person can get, which refers to deep sleep. Exercise can also help to stabilize mood and decompress the mind, "a cognitive process that is important for naturally transitioning to sleep," she noted. However, the timing of exercise may affect sleep quality, and people should listen to their bodies to determine the best time to exercise.
