Spectacular Footage of SpaceX Fairing's Re-Entry into Atmosphere.

SpaceX released a protective spacecraft fairing during the recent ViaSat-3 launch on a Falcon Heavy rocket, which reached incredible speeds during its fiery re-entry through the Earth’s atmosphere. The fairing was recovered and is hoped to be used again. The primary payload was the broadband ViaSat-3 Americas satellite, and two smaller satellites were sent directly to geosynchronous Earth orbit (GEO). The Falcon Heavy is scheduled to launch three more missions this year.

Watch SpaceX's Falcon Heavy fairing reentry in surreal footage.

SpaceX has released surreal footage of the reusable rocket fairing reentering Earth's atmosphere at high speed during its recent Falcon Heavy mission, which deployed three payloads including the ViaSat 3 Americas broadband communications satellite. The fairings reentered the atmosphere greater than 15x the speed of sound, creating a large trail of plasma in its wake. SpaceX aims to catch the fairings in giant nets on ships waiting in the ocean for refurbishment and reuse in future rocket flights.

SpaceX's Falcon Heavy successfully launches ViaSat-3 satellite amidst weather delays.

SpaceX successfully launched the ViaSat-3 broadband satellite on a Falcon Heavy rocket after several delays caused by severe weather. The primary payload was deployed around four hours and 32 minutes after lift-off, followed by two rideshare payloads. The ViaSat-3 Americas satellite will take close to three weeks to reach its final GEO position and will provide more than 1,000 gigabits per second of capacity. The launch was part of a long-running series of setbacks for Viasat, which had originally planned to deploy the first of three ViaSat-3 satellites in 2019.

Viasat searches for new launch option for ViaSat 3 satellite.

Viasat is seeking a replacement for the Ariane 6 rocket to launch its third ViaSat 3 internet satellite, which is designed to serve the Asia-Pacific region. The first two ViaSat 3 satellites will provide internet service over the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Viasat had previously selected SpaceX, United Launch Alliance, and Arianespace to each launch one ViaSat 3 satellite, but the launch contract for the third satellite is now up for grabs. SpaceX and ULA's Vulcan rocket are the most likely contenders for the contract.

SpaceX's Falcon Heavy rocket set for 6th mission launch on April 27.

SpaceX's Falcon Heavy rocket is set to launch for the sixth time on April 27, carrying two satellites towards geostationary orbit. The primary payload is ViaSat-3 Americas, a 14,000-pound broadband satellite operated by Viasat, while the second satellite is Arcturus, a communications craft operated by Astranis Space Technologies. The Falcon Heavy consists of three strapped-together first stages of SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket, and has flown four times since its debut in February 2018. None of the boosters will be recovered on this mission.

SpaceX's Falcon Heavy Launch Delayed and Set to Launch Satellites Without Booster Recovery.

SpaceX has delayed the launch of its Falcon Heavy rocket from Florida's Kennedy Space Center by 24 hours to complete data reviews. The rocket will now lift off on Thursday night and carry a ViaSat-3 communications satellite into orbit, as well as a small communications satellite called Arcturus for Astranis. The launch window will open at 7:29 p.m. EDT and a backup opportunity is available on Friday at the same time.

SpaceX's Falcon Heavy set to launch ViaSat-3 Americas satellite.

SpaceX showcased its Falcon Heavy rocket ahead of its scheduled April 18 launch from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida's Space Coast. The rocket will send a ViaSat-3 broadband communications satellite to orbit as the first of a three-part constellation, along with a small communications satellite called Arcturus. The Falcon Heavy is the world's most powerful booster and has 27 Merlin engines that will bring the booster into space.
