Rising Respiratory Illnesses Prompt Hospital Mitigations in Illinois
The Illinois Department of Public Health is urging hospitals and medical facilities to increase their mitigation efforts as respiratory viruses, including COVID-19, flu, and RSV, are spiking in the state. With 51 counties reporting medium or high levels of COVID-19 hospitalizations, the health department recommends measures such as masking and screening, especially in areas where vulnerable patients are treated. The rise in respiratory viruses has prompted the department to support facility-wide masking in healthcare facilities located in counties with high levels of COVID-19 hospitalizations or elevated transmission of other respiratory viruses. The number of counties listed at the "high" level for COVID-19 hospitalizations has doubled, and the state has unveiled a new respiratory virus dashboard to track the situation.
