A 10-minute peaceful video showcases the beautiful landscapes and soundtrack of Ghost of Yotei, an upcoming game set in 1603 Hokkaido, highlighting its stunning art and open world ahead of its October 2, 2025 release.
Scientists have discovered ancient, river-shaped landscapes beneath East Antarctica's ice sheet that could influence glacier flow and improve predictions of sea level rise due to climate change, as these flat surfaces act as natural barriers and have remained largely undisturbed for over 30 million years.
Chinese startup Landscape successfully tested a reusable rocket prototype, the Zhuque-3 VTVL-1, with a 60-second flight at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. The rocket, aiming for a 2025 orbital launch, features stainless steel propellant tanks and a high-thrust liquid oxygen-methane engine, and is part of China's growing private space sector, which includes companies like iSpace, Galactic Energy, Space Pioneer, and Deep Blue Aerospace. While Landscape's ambitions mirror SpaceX's success, it faces challenges in catching up with SpaceX's reusability, but is making strides in the space industry.

The Residence ZV, designed by F:Poles Arquitetura, is located in Sorocaba, São Paulo. The clients desired a house that maximized free areas for gardens and landscaping, with a 360-degree balcony to view the surrounding landscapes. The design incorporates natural materials such as exposed concrete, wood, burnt cement, and stones, creating a composition that brings vegetation into the interior of the residence. The two-story house features a social area, service area, and guest suite on the ground floor, and an intimate area with private suites and a pantry on the upper floor. The decoration complements the materials used, and the landscaping project is considered as important as the architectural project.
Casa Calm, designed by architect Mateus Monteiro, is a contemporary and minimalist summer house that may become a permanent residence in the future. The client's request for concrete as a central material was fulfilled, along with a focus on landscaping and a kitchen surrounded by plants. The personalized and emotional project incorporates curated pieces referencing the couple's favorite city, Ouro Preto. The house features soapstone elements, including a sculpted bathtub in the master suite, and a pool covered in soapstone. The design aims to create a complete experience that meets the family's desires and routine.
"To Scale: TIME," a short film by Alex Gorosh and Wylie Overstreet, visualizes the immensity of cosmic creation beyond the clock and calendar. The film captures the magnitude of 13.8 billion years and is an awe-inspiring reminder of how small humans are in both time and space. The filmmakers install small lights to create a timeline of human civilization and the broader universe, augmented with visuals of galaxies and historical events, across a 4.3-mile stretch in the Mojave Desert.
Besonias Almeida Arquitectos has designed a small summer house with a generous swimming pool in El Salvaje, a venture of maritime land, environmentally sustainable both for its low population density and the conditions established by its regulations in relation to environmental care. The house is located in the highest area of the lot in order to enjoy the landscape admired by the owner. The courtyard is purposefully the organizing space of the house, intercalated between the sector that houses social activities and the more intimate of the two bedrooms with their private bathrooms. Wooden screens protect the house from strong winds and the intense summer sun.
Casa Mirador is a rectangular volume embedded in the landscape built basically of concrete, glass, and metal. The architectural piece occupies the upper part of a natural slope in order to take advantage of the height to maximize the vision towards the valley and the mountains in front of the land. The volume is occupied at one end by the small rectangular house, including the kitchen, bedroom, and services, all open to a small exterior access terrace. The remaining part of the volume is occupied by a square-like space used for storage: objects, machinery, and vehicles.
Converting an old camera to shoot infrared can give stunning black-and-white landscape photos with punchy contrast and an ethereal look. Infrared light is invisible to the naked eye, but through the camera, it can create weird and wonderful effects, especially on green foliage. While it's possible to use infrared filters, converting the camera's sensor is a better option as it allows for faster shutter speeds and eliminates the need for a tripod. The conversion process is not super cheap, but it's a great way to put an otherwise obsolete camera to new use and enjoy the creative thrill of taking photos in a brand new way.
Casa AP, designed by Patricia Bergantin, is a house that establishes a constant connection with nature, awakening coexistence, encounter, and contemplation. The architecture and interior design elements lead to a fluid dialogue with the countryside landscape of Fazenda Boa Vista, transforming the experience of dwelling into an experience of well-being. The use of rustic materials, fluid layouts, and a palette of natural tones evoke immersion in a shelter. The house is mutable and flexible in the face of its uses, open to the entire environment to provide experiences of well-being and welcome.
Bower Architecture has designed a single-story L-shaped descending plan house, Coastal Court, in Victoria, Australia, that prioritizes accessibility and low maintenance to allow aging in place. The linear plan acts as a protective edge to the two exposed street frontages, informally defining a large private internally focused courtyard. The home achieves a seven-star energy rating and the design performs well passively in terms of light, temperature control, and natural ventilation. The unique ramping design and consideration of mobility and ergonomics for aging in place allow the house to be a long-term home, achieving sustainability in its longevity.
HW studio arquitectos designs ENSO HOUSE II in Guanajuato, Mexico, with a cruciform residential plan that divides the space into four quadrants by a cross of stone alleys. Each quadrant is assigned a specific function, with the design emphasizing the region's cultural and architectural heritage through the use of local stone and a focus on the surrounding landscape. The building's largest windows face south, providing a visual connection to the mountain of Santa Maria, while a long, arched stone wall protects the entrance and emphasizes the horizontal presence of the mountain in the background.
Satellite photos show a major transformation in California's landscape from parched browns to lush greens and snow-covered mountains due to an incredibly wet winter. Gov. Gavin Newsom rolled back drought restrictions as nearly two-thirds of the state was no longer in drought as of March 21. The state's ability to move from very wet to very dry and back to very wet is unique across the western U.S.
