"Advancements in Blood Tests for Early Colon Cancer Detection"
A new blood test for colon cancer shows promise for early detection, potentially preventing up to 73 percent of deaths from the disease. Many people are reluctant to undergo traditional screening methods such as colonoscopies or fecal tests. Gastroenterologists believe that blood tests could become a simpler and more widely accepted screening option, possibly being included in routine blood work during annual physical exams. Colon cancer is the second-most common cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States, and the death rate has increased in people under age 55.
