Residents of Staffordshire are being asked to look out for meteorite fragments after a bright fireball was seen over the Midlands on May 6. Scientists advise not to touch the rock with bare hands to avoid contamination and suggest using aluminium foil or a clean, dry sandwich bag. Researchers from several universities have already searched the area but have yet to find the meteorite.

A bright meteor was captured on camera over Devon, with the UK Fireball Alliance describing it as "quite spectacular." The meteor was seen on Wednesday evening and landed in the sea off the coast of Cornwall, but no meteorites were recoverable as the trajectory showed it to have both occurred and terminated over the ocean. The alliance explained that a fireball and a meteor are the same thing, with "fireball" being a visual term, and clarified the terms meteoroid, meteor, and meteorite.
