"Experts Discover Fractured Skull and Multiple Injuries in Dead New Jersey Whale"
A post-mortem examination of a juvenile male humpback whale that washed ashore in New Jersey revealed numerous blunt force injuries, including a fractured skull and vertebrae, as well as evidence of past entanglement with fishing gear. While the cause of these injuries remains under investigation, there is ongoing controversy surrounding the potential impact of offshore wind power site preparation on whale deaths along the U.S. East Coast, despite scientific agencies stating there is no evidence linking the two. The whale's death marks New Jersey's first of the year, amid a total of 16 large whale deaths on the East Coast in 2024, with some attributed to vessel strikes or entanglement with fishing gear.
