"South Fork Wind Farm Powers New York with Atlantic Winds"
New York State has started receiving electricity from the Atlantic Ocean through the completion of the first turbine of the South Fork Wind project, the first large-scale offshore wind farm in the United States. The wind farm, located about 35 miles east of Montauk Point, is still under construction but will eventually have the capacity to produce 132 megawatts of electricity, enough to power approximately 70,000 homes. The transmission of offshore wind power is a significant step towards New York's goal of transitioning to renewable energy sources, but rising costs and supply chain disruptions have posed challenges for future wind farm projects. The state has solicited new bids for additional wind farms off the coast of Long Island to meet its clean-energy goals.
