"22-Minute Exercise: Decrease Your Risk of Death and Live Longer"

Engaging in at least 20-25 minutes of physical activity daily can counteract the increased risk of death associated with a sedentary lifestyle, according to a recent research study. The study, which analyzed data from nearly 12,000 adults aged 50 and above, found that higher levels of daily physical activity reduce death risks, regardless of sitting durations. While the study had limitations, the findings suggest that promoting physical activity can have significant health benefits and that even small amounts of moderate to vigorous physical activity can help mitigate the mortality risk from high sedentary time.

The Power of 20-25 Minutes: Exercise to Prevent Death Risk from Sitting

A study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine suggests that engaging in just 20 to 25 minutes of physical activity per day can counteract the increased risk of death associated with a sedentary lifestyle. Regardless of the amount of time spent sitting, higher levels of daily physical activity were linked to a lower risk of death. The study, based on data from the US, Sweden, and Norway, found that sitting for more than 12 hours a day increased the risk of death by 38%, but this risk was eliminated with just 22 minutes of moderate-to-intense physical activity per day. The findings recommend exercising for at least 20 to 25 minutes a day to receive similar benefits.

Opioid Use Increases Death Risk for Dementia Patients, Study Reveals

Dementia patients who take opioids, particularly in the first two weeks after starting the medication, face a significantly higher risk of death, according to a new study presented at the Alzheimer's Association International Conference. The research found that a third of Alzheimer's patients in Denmark who took opioids died within 180 days of starting the medication, with the risk being five times higher than those who did not take opioids. The risk was even higher for those using fentanyl patches, with nearly two-thirds of patients dying within 180 days. Experts caution against prescribing opioids to dementia patients and emphasize the need for careful evaluation of risk and benefits, as well as safe pain management alternatives.

New study debunks health benefits of moderate alcohol consumption.

A new evidence review asserts that the potential health benefits of moderate alcohol use vanish when flaws and biases in previous studies are taken into account. At best, a drink or two each day has no effect good or ill on a person's health, while three or more drinks daily significantly increase the risk of an early death. The analysis also found that alcohol has a more dramatic effect at lower amounts on women's risk of death. Alcohol use increases the risk of liver disease, some cancers, stroke and heart disease.
