13-year-old hero swims 4km to rescue family off WA coast
A 13-year-old boy swam 4km through rough, fading-light seas to raise the alarm after his family were swept 4km offshore near Geographe Bay, WA. He spent about two hours with a life jacket before discarding it, then swam the remaining distance to shore. All three were rescued by helicopter and rescue vessel, treated by paramedics, and later discharged, with life jackets credited for their survival.
