"World's Largest Plane Successfully Tests Hypersonic Vehicle in First Powered Flight"

Stratolaunch successfully completed the first powered flight of its Talon-A hypersonic vehicle, released from its massive aircraft named Roc, reaching high supersonic speeds approaching Mach 5 and collecting valuable data. The company plans to use the data for the upcoming flight of TA-2, a reusable version of the hypersonic vehicle, and is also developing a larger hypersonic vehicle and a spaceplane. Originally founded to launch rockets into space, Stratolaunch shifted focus to hypersonic vehicles after its founder's death and has secured a contract with the Pentagon’s Missile Defense Agency to provide a testbed for developing defense strategies against hypersonic threats.

"Stratolaunch Achieves Milestones in Hypersonic Flight and Payload Delivery"

The world's largest aircraft, Roc, successfully flew and deployed the Talon-A vehicle, a mini space shuttle, marking its first real payload flight. Although the vehicle didn't reach hypersonic velocity, it collected valuable data for future development. Stratolaunch, initially founded to launch rockets mid-air, faced financial uncertainty after the death of its founder, Paul Allen, but was revitalized under new ownership to focus on launching hypersonic vehicles. The TA-1 vehicle was powered by Ursa Major Technologies' Hadley rocket engine, marking a significant milestone for the company.

"Stratolaunch Achieves Milestone with First Powered Hypersonic Flight"

Stratolaunch successfully conducted the first powered test flight of a new unmanned hypersonic research craft, the Talon-A-1, off the coast of California. The vehicle reached high supersonic speeds approaching Mach 5 and collected valuable data, marking a major milestone in the development of privately funded, reusable hypersonic test capability. The massive carrier aircraft, Roc, released the Talon, which was powered by a liquid-fuel rocket engine and ended its flight with a controlled descent into the ocean. Stratolaunch aims to develop a reusable version capable of landing on a runway for future use in hypersonic research.

"Stratolaunch's Talon Hypersonic Vehicle Completes Successful First Powered Flight"

Private company Stratolaunch successfully tested its Talon-A hypersonic vehicle, achieving safe air-launch release, engine ignition, sustained climb in altitude, and a controlled water landing off the coast of California. The company aims to complete the vehicle's development this year and has begun work on two newer models, as defense contractors worldwide focus on hypersonic weapons and defense systems.

"Stratolaunch Successfully Tests Reusable Hypersonic Vehicle in First Powered Flight"

Stratolaunch successfully conducted the first powered flight of its Talon vehicle, reaching "high supersonic" speeds in an uncrewed test. The vehicle, TA-1, achieved its major test objectives, including release from the Roc aircraft, ignition of its engine, sustained acceleration, and controlled climb through high supersonic speeds before decelerating and gliding to an ocean splashdown. The company's next vehicle, TA-2, a reusable hypersonic vehicle, is scheduled for flight tests in the second half of the year. Stratolaunch is also modifying a Boeing 747 acquired last year to serve as a second air-launch platform.

Stratolaunch acquires Virgin Orbit's assets amidst bankruptcy sale.

Stratolaunch has received approval to acquire Virgin Orbit's modified Boeing 747, expanding its air-launch fleet and increasing its in-flight test capacity for hypersonic testing. The additional aircraft will be repurposed as a launch platform for Stratolaunch's Talon-A reusable hypersonic testbeds and is expected to be fully operational in 2024. The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to close by July 31, 2023.

Virgin Orbit's Demise: Key Assets Sold, Mission Failure, and Bankruptcy Sales

Virgin Orbit has agreed to sell key assets worth over $35m to three aerospace companies and will cease operations. The California-based company filed for bankruptcy in early April after failing to secure long-term financing and furloughing all but 100 staff members. Stratolaunch, Rocket Lab and Launcher are the winning bidders of a weeks-long sale process that ended in a bankruptcy auction held on Monday. Six rockets in assembly stages are still pending sale, a Virgin Orbit spokesperson told CNBC's Michael Sheetz.

Virgin Orbit liquidates assets in bankruptcy sale.

Virgin Orbit, Richard Branson's bankrupt satellite launch firm, is closing for good after a $36.4 million asset sale, including an agreement to sell the bulk of its Long Beach, California, headquarters to small-launch firm Rocket Lab USA Inc. Rocket Lab won the bankrupt rocket company's primary manufacturing site for $16 million during an auction held on Monday. Virgin Orbit also plans to sell its aircraft assets, including the modified Boeing 747 "Cosmic Girl" carrier aircraft, to hypersonics firm Stratolaunch for $17 million.

Virgin Orbit assets sold off to multiple companies after bankruptcy.

Three aerospace companies, Rocket Lab, Stratolaunch, and Vast, have won the bankruptcy auction for most of the assets of launch company Virgin Orbit, including manufacturing facilities and its Boeing 747 aircraft. The auction results rule out any attempt to keep the company intact and bring it out of bankruptcy under new ownership. Virgin Orbit said it would cease operations after completing the sale of the assets.

"Bankrupt Virgin Orbit receives $17 million bid for aircraft assets"

Bankrupt rocket company Virgin Orbit has received a $17 million "stalking horse" bid for its modified 747 carrier jet and other aircraft assets from aerospace venture Stratolaunch, which is developing the world's largest airplane called "Roc" as an airborne platform for hypersonic flight testing. The deal would see Stratolaunch buy Virgin Orbit's aircraft assets for cash, with a $1.7 million deposit to be made by the buyer immediately in escrow if the deal goes through. Virgin Orbit filed for bankruptcy protection on April 4 after the company failed to secure a funding lifeline and laid off nearly its entire workforce.

Virgin Orbit's Bankruptcy Assets Receive $17 Million Bid.

Virgin Orbit has entered into a "stalking horse" agreement with Stratolaunch to sell mainly its aircraft assets, including the "Cosmic Girl" carrier aircraft, for $17 million in cash. The bankrupt satellite launch company said the bid does not prevent going concern bidders from making bids for all its assets, including the ones Stratolaunch is bidding for. The deadline to submit bids for its assets is 12 p.m. ET (1600 GMT) on May 19.
