Titan Sub Safety Concerns: Debris Found and Experts Speak Out.

Debris, including parts of the outside cover, has been found in the search for the missing Titan submersible, which disappeared in a remote area of the North Atlantic on Sunday with a four-day oxygen supply for its crew of five. The debris was located by a remote-controlled underwater search vehicle (ROV) near the wreck of the Titanic. The US Coast Guard earlier said a "debris field" had been found. It is now being analysed.

New Upside-Down Alien Species Discovered in Underwater Cave

Scientists exploring the Great Barrier Reef using a remote operated vehicle (ROV) have discovered three new species of carnivorous sponges, including one that resembles the parasitic "alien wanderer" from the book and movie "The Host." The sponges were found in an underwater cave and on rocks, and were identified based on their body shapes and physical structures. The use of ROVs in discovering several sponges shows the technology's "immense value to carefully observe and collect (sponges) from cryptic habitats," researchers said.

Deep-Sea Life Flourishes Around Newly Found Hydrothermal Vents

An international team of scientists has discovered three new underwater hydrothermal vents over a 434-mile-long stretch of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge that showcases a fascinating “city” that is teeming with life. Hydrothermal vents are fissures in the seabed that expel geothermally heated water and are most commonly found near volcanically active spots in the ocean. The majority of the species found in vent communities are not found anywhere else, making the unique refuge of life in the deep sea particularly fascinating for scientists to study. The footage and photos of these deep-sea communities were made possible thanks to the advanced imaging systems on the Falkor (too)‘s remote-operated vehicle (ROV) SubBastian.

Mysterious Deep Sea Creature and Diverse Comb Jellies Unveiled.

A video clip of a deep-sea creature that has been described as an "alien-looking creature" or "unidentified transforming deep sea creature" is actually a bloody-belly comb jelly, or Lampocteis cruentiventer, a species that is often photographed during deep-ocean ROV missions. The species is found throughout the Pacific Ocean basin and has been seen in the Atlantic Ocean basin as well. The reddish tint of the translucent comb jelly's body is believed to hide the contents of its stomach from predators, and in the deep sea, the jelly appears black, rendering it virtually invisible given the darkness of its surroundings.
