Cholesterol and Early Signs: Predicting Dementia Risk
A new study presented at the American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions suggests that significant fluctuations in cholesterol levels may increase the risk of developing dementia. The research, which analyzed data from nearly 10,000 participants, found that those with high cholesterol variability had a 60% higher risk of dementia and a 23% greater risk of cognitive decline. While the exact relationship between cholesterol and dementia is unclear, it is believed that cholesterol's role in cardiovascular health may influence dementia risk, particularly vascular dementia. Lifestyle changes, such as a healthy diet and regular exercise, are recommended to manage cholesterol levels.
