A new survey by GoBankingRates.com reveals that California requires a living wage of $80,013 for singles to live comfortably, making it the third most expensive state in the US. The study factors in the cost of necessities, discretionary spending, and savings. Hawaii tops the list with a living wage of $112,411, followed by Massachusetts at $87,909. The high living wage in California is attributed to its high median home values, with the median price of a single-family home being $832,340 and median rent at $2,912 per month. In contrast, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Alabama have the lowest living wages for singles.
