"Sun's Stunning 400-Megapixel Portrait Composed of 100,000 Photos"

Astrophotographer Andrew McCarthy has created a 400-megapixel image of the Sun by combining over 100,000 photos taken during a 30-minute period when atmospheric conditions improved clarity and stability. Using a method called 'drizzling,' he sorted the photos into a coherent image, resulting in his highest-resolution solar image to date. McCarthy aims to inspire more people to look up at celestial bodies and has named his creation "The Star of System Sol," offering it as a limited print on his website.

"Webb Space Telescope Reveals Stunning High-Definition Images of Cassiopeia A Supernova Remnant"

The Webb Space Telescope has captured a high-resolution image of the supernova remnant Cassiopeia A, revealing intricate details of the expanding shell of material from the star's explosion. The image shows clumps of gas in bright orange and light pink, composed of sulfur, oxygen, argon, and neon. The debris includes tiny filaments comparable to shards of glass, providing new insights into the star's explosion. This is the second image of Cassiopeia A taken by Webb, with the invisible wavelengths of light captured by the telescope shifted into the visible spectrum.

ALMA radio telescope captures groundbreaking high-resolution image

The Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) has captured its highest-resolution image ever, featuring an evolved star called R Leporis. Using a new calibration technique called the band-to-band method, ALMA observed submillimeter-wave emissions from the stellar surface and a bright ring-like structure of gas escaping from the star. This unprecedented view was achieved by pushing ALMA's capabilities to their limit, allowing astronomers to probe phenomena with precision previously beyond reach. The image was taken using ALMA's highest frequency Band 10 receiver and an array configuration spanning 10 miles, with an angular resolution equivalent to spotting a 33-foot-long bus on the moon from Earth.

Hubble Captures Stunning Star Clusters in High-Res Photos.

The Hubble Space Telescope has captured a high-resolution image of the globular cluster NGC 6544, which is densely populated with tens of thousands of stars and located more than 8,000 light years away from Earth. The 19-megapixel photo is available to download in greater than 4K resolution and combines data from two of Hubble’s imaging systems. The image is of interest to scientists as it could help explain how clusters like NGC 6544 change over time. The photo is available to download in high resolution and is larger than most Hubble images.

Exploring Mars in Unprecedented Detail: A 5.7 Terapixel Landscape.

Caltech's Bruce Murray Laboratory for Planetary Visualization has unveiled a 5.7 terapixel online image of Mars, offering a 20-fold increase in resolution for a detailed view of the planet's surface. The image was created by merging 110,000 individual images taken by the Context Camera aboard NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, covering 99.5% of Mars' surface. Users can access the image through an interactive interface called SceneView, enabling seamless exploration of the Martian surface. The mosaic represents a 20-fold increase in resolution compared to the previous highest-resolution global image of Mars.
