A US study suggests that drinking coffee may reduce the risk of irregular heartbeats, specifically atrial fibrillation, challenging the common advice to avoid caffeine for those with the condition. The Decaf trial found coffee drinkers had a lower recurrence of irregular heartbeats and longer intervals before episodes, though limitations exist. The findings could influence future dietary recommendations for individuals with atrial fibrillation.

Garmin has expanded its ECG App compatibility to include the Epix Pro series, Fenix 7 Pro series, Venu 3 series, and Tactix 7 smartwatches in the US. Users can now take electrocardiogram readings from their supported watches, check for signs of atrial fibrillation and sinus rhythm, and view the results on their watches or the Garmin Connect app. The ECG readings are comparable in accuracy to single-lead electrocardiogram devices and can be exported as PDF files.

Millions of people have an abnormal heart rhythm or arrhythmia, with atrial fibrillation (AF) being the most common type. AF causes an irregular and often unusually fast heartbeat, which drastically raises the risk of a stroke. Many people are unaware they have the condition, and it's important to be aware of arrhythmia warning signs and get things checked out. Heart arrhythmia can cause a variety of serious heart health complications including strokes, heart failure, and heart attacks. Arrhythmias can be treated in a variety of ways, including drug therapy, implantation of an electrical device, and surgeries.

Samsung has received FDA clearance for its irregular heart rhythm notification feature for Galaxy Watches, which will work alongside its FDA-cleared EKG feature and first arrive on the upcoming Galaxy Watch 6. The feature will monitor for irregular heart rate rhythms in the background and alert users once a certain number of consecutive measurements are found to be irregular. The feature will be part of the forthcoming One UI 5 Watch update and will come first to the upcoming Galaxy Watch devices later this year before expanding to previous editions.

A new study published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that coffee consumption doesn't increase abnormal heartbeats associated with an increased risk of the most common heart rhythm disturbance, atrial fibrillation. The study monitored the hearts, activity, and sleep of 100 people without underlying heart conditions over two weeks. However, there may still be other health effects associated with coffee consumption.

Google has released an update for the Pixel Watch that allows users to check the time even with a dead battery. The update also includes the March Feature Drop, which adds Fall Detection, support for mono audio, and color-blindness modes. The update optimizes the touchscreen sensitivity and fixes numerous bugs. Google will also release a Play Store update in the coming weeks to fix a major alarm bug.
