Logistical Challenges Persist for Open Return to Trump Turnberry

The Open Championship is unlikely to return to Donald Trump's Turnberry course soon due to logistical issues related to transportation and infrastructure, despite the course's beauty and history of hosting the event. The R&A is in discussions with Trump Golf and the UK government but has expressed concerns about the challenges of hosting the tournament there, similar to other Scottish courses like Muirfield, which also faces infrastructure upgrades. The decision ultimately depends on resolving these logistical hurdles.

"Trump's Scotland Castle: A Controversial Centerpiece in NYC Civil Trial"

Donald Trump's Scottish castle and golf courses have become the focus of a civil trial in Manhattan, where he is accused of overstating the value of his properties in Aberdeen and Turnberry. The lawsuit, brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James, alleges that Trump "vastly overstated the value" of undeveloped land and "improperly inflated the value of the golf course" at the Aberdeenshire resort. Trump's daughter, Ivanka Trump, has also taken the stand in the trial, which is proceeding without a jury. Trump's Scotland properties are considered among his "most beloved."

Nature Reclaims Abandoned Golf Courses Worldwide

Abandoned golf courses are being repurposed and rewilded by conservation nonprofits and local authorities, providing opportunities to boost biodiversity and combat climate change. Organizations like The Trust for Public Land (TPL) are acquiring former golf courses and restoring them to their natural state, creating habitats for endangered species and improving water flow. Similar initiatives are taking place in the UK, where golf courses are being transformed into woodlands and nature reserves. These efforts highlight the potential of repurposing golf courses to create more sustainable and ecologically diverse landscapes.

Coffee cup DNA solves decades-old golf course sexual assaults cold case.

A Michigan man, identified using genetic genealogy technology, has been arrested in connection with two decades-old sexual assault cases that occurred on golf courses in different states. Kurt Alan Rillema, an "avid golfer," was identified through DNA evidence from the sexual assault of a 22-year-old woman at a Michigan golf course in 1999, which matched DNA evidence from a violent rape in Pennsylvania, also on a golf course, at the Penn State University campus in 2000. DNA from a coffee cup ultimately led to Rillema's arrest. He faces charges in both states and could face up to life in prison if convicted.

"Golf Courses Benefit from Remote Workers' Nighttime Work and Afternoon Breaks"

Remote workers are taking afternoon breaks to play golf, benefiting golf courses. Stanford researchers found a 143% increase in golfers playing more golf on Wednesdays in 2022 compared to 2019, with a 278% jump in mid-afternoon play. The researchers suggest that employees are golfing as breaks while working from home, but if they make up the time later, it does not reduce productivity. Hybrid work-from-home arrangements will be 50% of jobs, fully in-person 40%, and fully-remote 10%, according to researcher Nick Bloom.
