A new map for the path of totality for the Total Solar Eclipse has been released, showing a narrower path, but Rochester and most surrounding communities will not be significantly affected. James Bader, director of the Strasenburgh Planetarium, advises those on the edge of the path to consider heading further north for a longer view of totality, particularly in some towns in Steuben, Seneca, and Yates counties. Residents in specific areas may need to head north to witness the totality longer, and a revised map is available for those on the edge of totality to check.

Warmer weather is expected for much of next week, with the possibility of snow on Tuesday transitioning to rain, and another system possible for Friday and Saturday.
The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning and Wind Advisory for the Finger Lakes and Central New York, with damaging winds and widespread power outages expected due to an approaching wind event. The warning begins late Friday and expires Sunday at 4 a.m., with sustained winds between 25 and 35 mph and gusts exceeding 60-65 mph. The concern is heightened by the upcoming drop in temperatures, making travel difficult and increasing the likelihood of trees and power lines coming down. Residents are advised to stay indoors and away from trees and branches in the warned areas.
