Researchers at Colorado State University have proposed a new approach to detect and understand dark matter using the upcoming Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) detectors, which are set to become operational in 2028. The study focuses on identifying unique signals produced when dark matter interacts with atomic nuclei, aiming to shed light on the elusive nature of dark matter, which constitutes a significant portion of the universe's mass and energy.
