"iOS 18 Leak: Apple Notes to Get Voice Memos and Math Upgrades"

"Google Messages brings voice memo support to Wear OS devices"

Google Messages is introducing voice memo support on its Wear OS app, allowing users to send and listen to voice memos directly from their smartwatches. The feature includes a recording limit of 59 seconds and a progress ring UI. However, adjusting the volume on the watch is not yet available. This update follows WhatsApp's similar feature and could benefit from additional features like Wear OS Tiles for inbox display and conversation shortcuts.

Google has found that the majority of Pixel Recorder sessions are three minutes or less, with users using the app for short memos, such as brainstorming rap lyrics or doing voiceovers. This is in contrast to iOS's Voice Memos app, which more accurately reflects the short-form nature of how people use the app. The Pixel Essential Apps team responsible for Recorder, Google Clock, and Calculator takes into account user feedback to balance what users are requesting with an overall vision of the next phase of audio technology. Recently, Google introduced Speaker Labels, which doubles down on the long-form use case.
