Meta is testing messaging capabilities for Threads, allowing users to initiate new messages from the app using Instagram's inbox, but it's not a full-fledged DM feature. Instagram head Adam Mosseri has expressed reluctance to create a separate inbox for Threads, preferring to integrate the Instagram inbox into the app. While this may make messaging from Threads less clunky, checking or replying to messages still requires using the Instagram app, as building two separate inboxes could lead to complications.
