Lord Cutler Beckett, the main antagonist of Pirates of the Caribbean, was the franchise's most interesting and versatile villain. If Beckett and his East India Company became the main villain of the franchise, it would inspire more thoughtful historical commentary and give the movies historical stakes that might have saved the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise from declining relevance.
