Some South Africans are calling for the Star of Africa, the world's largest diamond weighing 530 carats and set in the royal sceptre used by King Charles III at his coronation, to be returned to South Africa. The diamond was discovered in South Africa in 1905 and presented to the British monarchy by the colonial government. The diamond, officially known as Cullinan I, was cut from the Cullinan diamond, a 3,100 carat stone that was mined near Pretoria. The call for the return of the diamond comes amid a global conversation about returning artwork and artefacts that were pillaged during colonial times.
