Diverse Spinosaur Species Found in Cretaceous Britain.

A recent study by the University of Southampton's EvoPalaeoLab reveals that several distinct groups of spinosaurs lived in Cretaceous Britain, challenging previous beliefs. Researchers found that a spinosaur tooth from the Hastings Museum belonged to a different species, not the commonly identified Baryonyx, underlining the rich diversity of spinosaurs in southern England and the potential for discovering new dinosaur species in well-explored regions. The study shows that distinct and distantly related spinosaur types lived in the region during Early Cretaceous times, and museums are essential in developing our understanding of them.

"Spain Unearths New Meat-Eating Dinosaur Species"

Scientists have discovered a new dinosaur species, Protathlitis cinctorrensis, in eastern Spain that belonged to the spinosaurs group, which included the largest meat-eating dinosaurs on record. The bipedal dinosaur lived about 126 to 127 million years ago and was about 33 to 36 feet long and weighed about 2 tons. The discovery provides a deeper understanding of the highly successful group of meat-eaters that hunted on land and in the water. Protathlitis probably hunted on land near coastal zones and only occasionally hunted fish. The new discovery bolsters the notion that during the early Cretaceous, two lineages of spinosaurs occupied the western part of Europe, then migrated to Africa and Asia, where they would diversify.

"Spain Unearths New Species of Meat-Eating Dinosaur"

Researchers have discovered a new species of dinosaur, a spinosaurid, in Spain based on fossil fragments found in the Arcillas de Morella Formation in Castellon. The dinosaur, named Protathlitis cinctorrensis, is believed to have lived during the late Barremian or Early Cretaceous period and was between 10 to 11 meters long. The discovery sheds further light on the origin and evolution of spinosaurids, which may have originated in Europe and later migrated to Africa and Asia.
