Early-rising and late-night stargazers in the Northern Hemisphere have a great opportunity to see Sirius, Earth's brightest nighttime star. Known as the Dog Star, Sirius can be seen before dawn and in the winter night sky. It is visible even in light-polluted areas and may display multi-color flashing when lower on the horizon. Sirius is one of the closest stars to Earth and can be found by following an imaginary line through the stars of Orion's belt.
