California mountain town buried in record snowfall.

Mammoth Mountain in California's Sierra Nevada Mountains has received record-breaking snowfall, with more than 700 inches for the season, surpassing the previous record set in the 2010-2011 season. The ski resort has recorded 870 inches at the base of the Main Lodge, which will stretch the ski season through at least July. Wind gusts at the ski resort were reported to be as high as 98 mph, and another 30 inches of snow fell in the last 24 hours with more snow expected this weekend and early next week.

California's Drought Recovery: Over 60% of State No Longer in Drought.

Recent winter storms have wiped out drought conditions in California's Central Valley and along the California coast from western LA County to the Oregon border, according to the latest US Drought Monitor report. At the start of the water year in late September, the Central Valley was facing extreme to exceptional drought, but recent storms have brought significant rain and snow, resulting in a stark contrast. The average mid-March water equivalency of the high-elevation Sierra Nevada snowpack topped 55 inches, more than 220% of normal for an entire season, according to the California Department of Water Resources.
