Rolling-meadow giant: citizen scientists uncover one of the reef's largest coral colonies

Citizen scientists identify a Pavona clavus coral off Cairns spanning about 111 meters and covering roughly 3,973 square meters, potentially making it one of the reef’s largest colonies. Genetic testing is needed to confirm if it is a single organism or multiple close colonies, with size mapped via photogrammetry and implications for reef resilience.

800,000-Year-Old Footprints in Norfolk Reveal Early Humans in Northern Europe

Archaeologists revealed 800,000-year-old footprints at Happisburgh, Norfolk—the oldest human trackways outside Africa—preserved via digital photogrammetry. Left by at least five people, including adults and children, they suggest a family group walking along an estuary in a pre-Ice Age European habitat, probably made by Homo antecessor.

Witchfire Dev Champions Small Teams, Photogrammetry, and a Nuanced Take on Extraction Shooters

Adrian Chmielarz discusses Witchfire’s nine-year development by a lean The Astronauts team (peaking around 26–27 core staff after starting from ~12), highlighting photogrammetry and Unreal Engine 4 as key tools; he argues small, passionate teams enable fast, honest critique and deep collaboration, cites Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 as a case study in clever shortcuts, and clarifies Witchfire is a hybrid RPG shooter with extraction elements rather than a pure extraction game, with plans to move to Unreal Engine 5 for future projects.

"DJI Unveils 3D Model Editing Software for Seamless Editing"

DJI has launched Modify, a 3D model editing software that complements its drones' 3D capturing capabilities, catering to both professional and creative users. The software, designed to work seamlessly with DJI's Terra, offers tools to edit, clean, and fine-tune 3D-mapped data, including removing artifacts and repairing broken surfaces. Modify's intelligent auto-repair editing tools, AI support, and file format compatibility make it suitable for various industries such as transportation, surveying, public safety, and infrastructure, and it is currently available for free as a Public Beta on DJI's Enterprise website.

Ancient Fossil Trackways Uncover Europe's First Raptor-Prey Encounter

Fossil trackways discovered in Portugal provide evidence of a raptor-prey attack in Pleistocene Europe. The trackways include Corvidichnus odemirensis, attributed to a Western jackdaw, and Buboichnus vicentinus, interpreted as a predatory feeding trace of a Eurasian eagle-owl. The latter is considered one of the first examples of a raptorial bird preying on another animal preserved in a trace fossil. The tracks were found in aeolianite sandstones and provide insights into the larger ecosystem of the Late Pleistocene. Photogrammetry was used to create 3D digital models of the trackways for analysis.

"Unrecord" Game Blurs Line Between Reality and Virtual Reality with Stunning Bodycam Graphics

"Unrecord," an upcoming tactical FPS game, has released a demo showcasing its stunningly realistic graphics, likely achieved through the use of photogrammetry and a shaky cam technique. The game's bodycam aspect ratio and animation also contribute to its convincing look. However, the game's similarity to police bodycam footage has drawn controversy, and the developer has addressed concerns in an FAQ. No release date or platform availability has been announced yet.
