"Extinct Atlantic Gray Whale Spotted off Massachusetts Coast"

Researchers from the New England Aquarium spotted a gray whale off the coast of Nantucket, Massachusetts, a rare event as the species had vanished from the Atlantic by the 18th century. The sighting, which occurred during a regular survey, surprised the researchers who initially thought it might be a North Atlantic right whale. However, upon closer observation, they confirmed it was indeed a gray whale, a species regularly found in the North Pacific. The reasons for their disappearance from the Atlantic remain unclear, but experts suggest whaling may have been a contributing factor.

"Extinct Atlantic Gray Whale Spotted Near Nantucket After 200 Years"

A rare gray whale, extinct in the Atlantic for over 200 years, was spotted near Nantucket, marking an incredibly rare event. The New England Aquarium's aerial survey team confirmed the sighting, attributing the whale's presence to the impact of climate change, which has opened up the Northwest Passage and allowed gray whales to potentially travel between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. This sighting serves as a reminder of how quickly marine species respond to climate change when given the opportunity.

"Extinct Atlantic Gray Whale Spotted off Massachusetts Coast After 200 Years"

Researchers from the New England Aquarium spotted a rare gray whale off the coast of Massachusetts, marking the first sighting of the species in the Atlantic Ocean in over 200 years. The scientists believe that climate change has allowed the whales to pass through the ice-free Northwest Passage connecting the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. This sighting serves as a reminder of how quickly marine species respond to climate change and highlights the dynamic nature of the ocean ecosystem.

Rare Orca Sightings off New England Coast

Four killer whales, a rare sight in New England waters, were spotted by scientists from the New England Aquarium during aerial surveys 40 miles south of Nantucket, Massachusetts. The sighting included two males and two females, and the species' population is very small in western North Atlantic waters. The team also spotted nearly 150 whales and dolphins during the seven-hour flight, including 23 fin whales, five minke whales, 62 bottlenose dolphins, and 20 humpback whales bubble feeding.
