Cosmic Rays Accurately Date 7,000-Year-Old Greek Settlement

Researchers at the University of Bern have precisely dated a prehistoric farming settlement in northern Greece to between 5328 and 5140 BC using dendrochronology and a significant radiocarbon spike from a cosmic event in 5259 BC. This breakthrough provides a reliable chronological reference for other Southeast European archaeological sites and marks a paradigm shift in dating prehistoric periods, especially in regions without consistent tree-ring chronologies.

"Miyake event" poses greater threat than "Carrington event" to modern technology.

Miyake events, sudden, single-year leaps in the concentration of carbon-14 in trees, as well as beryllium-10 and chlorine-36 in ice sheets, exhibit significantly greater intensity than the solar or stellar events that could have triggered the Carrington event in 1859. Scientists are using Miyake events to precisely date historic occurrences or specimens. However, a Miyake event powerful enough to leave its mark in the rings of trees would cripple modern society, collapsing telecommunications systems, flooding satellites, and toppling power grids, leaving anything reliant on electricity inoperable.

The Worst Solar Storm in History Could Strike Again.

A solar storm that hit the Earth in 774 CE, known as the Miyake event, was 10 times more intense than the Carrington event of 1859, according to a study published in the Nature Journal. The researchers analyzed tree ring data and found conclusive evidence of the solar storm's existence. The study also revealed that such storms have regularly plagued the Earth with a gap of roughly 1000 years. If a storm like this were to hit us now, it would cause an 'internet apocalypse' and destroy every bit of wireless technology we have including mobile networks, GPS, radio communication systems and the internet.
