Microsoft is testing a new policy that allows IT administrators to uninstall the Copilot digital assistant on managed Windows 11 devices, providing more control over AI features in enterprise environments. The policy is currently rolling out to Insider Preview builds and can be enabled via Group Policy, with users still able to reinstall Copilot if desired.
Microsoft is notifying IT admins that it will force Outlook and Teams to open links in Microsoft Edge instead of the default web browser on Windows, causing frustration among IT admins and small businesses. While Microsoft 365 Enterprise IT admins can alter the policy, those on Microsoft 365 for business will have to manage this change on individual machines. This move is part of Microsoft's relentless push of Edge, which includes aggressive prompts and adding financing options and a crypto wallet into Edge, and could end up alienating Edge users instead of tempting them over from Chrome.
Microsoft Defender is causing headaches for IT admins by flagging legitimate URLs, such as Zoom and Google, as potentially dangerous, triggering a flood of alerts. The Defender portal is also experiencing issues, making it difficult to investigate the alerts. Microsoft is aware of the problem and investigating the issue, which is affecting hundreds of accounts and tenants worldwide. The root cause is being isolated by poring over service monitoring. The false alerts were caused by recent additions to the SafeLinks feature, which have since been reverted to fix the issue.
