Fasting Diets Linked to Brain Changes in Humans
A study by Chinese researchers has found that intermittent energy restriction (IER) diets, which involve controlled calorie intake and fasting, lead to significant changes in both the gut microbiome and brain activity in obese individuals. Over 62 days, participants lost an average of 7.8% of their body weight, with notable shifts in brain regions related to appetite and addiction, as well as changes in gut bacteria. This research highlights the dynamic interaction between the gut and brain, suggesting potential new strategies for obesity management.
