Global Climate Coalition Advances as US Steps Back
The European Union and 11 other countries, including Canada, Mexico, and the U.K., have committed to setting new climate targets by 2035 to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, without the participation of the U.S. The U.S. absence is attributed to political changes following Donald Trump's election victory. Despite not joining the coalition, the Biden administration expressed support for the initiative and is working on its own climate goals. The coalition aims to align with the Paris Agreement, with some countries already achieving net-zero emissions.
