"Global Commitments and Funding Drive Historic Progress in Cervical Cancer Elimination"

Governments, donors, and partners have announced nearly US$600 million in new funding and major commitments to eliminate cervical cancer, marking a historic step towards ending the preventable disease. The first-ever Global Cervical Cancer Elimination Forum in Colombia catalyzed national and global momentum to expand vaccine coverage and strengthen screening and treatment programs. With the knowledge and tools already in existence, including the HPV vaccine, there is potential to eliminate cervical cancer for the first time. However, challenges such as supply constraints, delivery issues, and the COVID-19 pandemic have hindered progress, leading to deep inequity, particularly in low and middle-income countries. The commitments made at the forum aim to reverse this trend and prevent annual deaths from rising to 410,000 by 2030.

The destruction resulted in 2.7 gigatons of carbon dioxide emissions, equivalent to India's annual fossil fuel emissions. Brazil, the country with the largest portion of tropical rainforest, had the highest rates of deforestation globally, followed by the Democratic Republic of Congo and Bolivia. However, Southeast Asia's efforts to curb deforestation yielded positive results.
