The heavy rain is desperately needed due to severe drought conditions, but the rapid rates of rainfall are causing flooding concerns.

One person has died and four others have been injured in a fireworks explosion at the Firehouse Nine event venue in east Texas. The incident occurred during preparations for a Fourth of July event, and no foul play is suspected. The fire is currently under investigation.

A tornado touched down in Tyler, Texas causing damage to businesses and homes. Reports of transformers exploding and damage at Prosthetic Orthotic Associates on East Idel Street have also been reported. KLTV viewers sent in pictures and videos of the funnel cloud forming and moving across the town. The severe weather was predicted to continue until late Thursday night and possibly into early Friday morning.

East Texas is under a First Alert Weather Day for Thursday due to the likelihood of two rounds of strong/severe thunderstorms, with the greatest risk being strong/gusty thunderstorm winds of 70 mph or more. The northern half of East Texas is under an ENHANCED RISK, while the southern half is under a SLIGHT RISK in the risk category. Flash flooding is possible with rainfall totals of up to three inches in some areas. Residents are advised to stay weather alert and sign up for First Alert-ThunderCall.
