Landslide at Mount Maunganui campsite leaves two dead and six missing
Two people have been confirmed dead and six remain unaccounted for after a landslide at a Mount Maunganui campsite, with police seeking information on three others who may have been there and could be international tourists who have since left. Two teenagers are among the missing; in Welcome Bay a separate landslide killed a grandmother and her grandchild. Prime Minister Christopher Luxon visited the disaster site as rescuers work around the clock amid ongoing heavy rain and forecasts of more storms, and authorities urge anyone with information to come forward.
