"GOP Senator Katie Britt Under Fire for Controversial Statements on Women and Migrants"

Anti-trafficking advocate Karla Jacinto Romero accused GOP Sen. Katie Britt of distorting her story in the GOP response to President Biden's State of the Union address. Britt used Jacinto Romero's story as an example of the impacts of Biden's border policies, but Jacinto Romero stated that her story was "distorted for political purposes" and clarified that she was not trafficked by Mexican drug cartels as described by Britt. Britt has not publicly denied that Jacinto Romero is the woman in question, and her office has not responded to requests for comment.

Las Vegas' Futuristic LED Sphere: A Visual Delight or Disappointment?

The $2.3 billion LED Sphere in Las Vegas, touted as the world's largest LED screen, appears underwhelming from ground level due to distortion caused by its massive curved screen. While it impresses with its size, the structure is only effective at displaying spherical objects, making it difficult to read as a display. The interior, which is yet to be revealed, will serve as a concert venue with a 160,000 square foot LED media plane. U2 will be the first performers in late September.

Efficient 3D Printing for Seamless Parts Production.

Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University have discovered a way to control the distortion that occurs during sintering in 3D printing, which could lead to the world's first illustration of sintering as a mechanism of "4D printing." The team developed a continuum model that accurately predicts distortion and parameters that control it, which could reduce costs and save energy by achieving near-net-shape parts using additive manufacturing without additional processing. The research is expected to open up new research directions in operando microscopy, temperature control, and the development of models that predict shape change for complex shapes.

Quantum Researchers Develop "Huge" Distortion Material

Scientists at the Department of Energy’s SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory and Stanford University have developed a novel quantum material, the atomic framework of which has been drastically distorted into a herringbone pattern by an electronic tug-of-war between its layers caused by the Jahn-Teller effect. The distortions resulting from this material are “huge” compared to those in other materials, and the resulting lattice distortions are equal to 25% of the distance between ions in the lattice. The researchers plan to investigate the material's intriguing magnetic, orbital, and charge order properties further, which could result in unique features.

Unraveling the Enigma of Alice in Wonderland Syndrome

Alice in Wonderland syndrome (AIWS) is a rare disorder that affects the way people perceive the world around them and can distort how they experience their own bodies and the space it occupies. The syndrome can cause distortions in vision as well as time, and can be triggered by a wide range of causes, including migraines, strokes, brain tumours, aneurysms, viral infections, epilepsy, eye diseases and psychiatric disorders. AIWS may be caused by a dysfunction of a region of the brain called the temporo-parietal-occipital junction, where visual and spatial information are combined with signals about touch, body position and pain.
