"Using Google Maps Timeline to Track and Improve Walking Ability in Multiple Sclerosis"

A study suggests that using the Google Maps Timeline tool in the smartphone app may help doctors remotely monitor fatigue, walking ability, and disease severity in people with multiple sclerosis (MS). The tool records daily walking distance and time, providing estimates of daily walking activities and self-perceived symptoms. The study found that most of these measurements were significantly linked to disease-related measures, making Google Maps Timeline a promising tool for monitoring walking abilities in MS patients.

Autoantibodies against blood clotting protein may determine COVID-19 severity

A study published in Scientific Reports found that autoantibodies against the blood clotting protein ADAMTS13 were observed in nearly one-third of hospitalized COVID-19 patients, indicating a potential role in disease severity. These autoantibodies, along with increased levels of von Willibrand factor (VWF), contributed to a decreased ADAMTS13/VWF ratio, which is associated with COVID-19 severity. The study suggests that measuring ADAMTS13 autoantibody levels could be useful in predicting the severity of COVID-19. Plasma exchange therapy was also found to restore the balance between VWF and ADAMTS13, providing a potential treatment option for severe COVID-19 cases.

Uncovering the Mystery of COVID's Differential Impact on People.

Researchers at NYU Abu Dhabi have discovered microRNAs associated with weakened immune response and severe COVID-19 symptoms in a genetically diverse group of unvaccinated patients from underrepresented regions. The study offers new insights for patient prognosis, treatment, and the potential use of microRNAs as biomarkers for disease severity. The findings demonstrate that a patient's genetic makeup affects immune function and disease severity, offering new insights into how patient prognosis and treatment can be improved.

Factors influencing Parkinson's disease severity in women.

Women-specific health factors, such as natural childbirth, pregnancy-related depression, and hysterectomy, may cause Parkinson's disease symptoms to be more severe, according to an exploratory study by scientists at the Cleveland Clinic. The study highlights the need for larger and more comprehensive studies to understand the role of women's health-specific factors on Parkinson's severity, as they are often not comprehensively studied or addressed in clinical trials.
