Quantum Tornadoes Reveal Superfluidity in Supersolid Matter
Physicists at the University of Innsbruck have successfully imaged quantum vortices in a supersolid, confirming the existence of this paradoxical phase of matter that combines properties of both solids and superfluids. This discovery, published in Nature, provides crucial evidence for supersolids, which may also exist in the interiors of neutron stars. The research could help explain phenomena in extreme cosmic environments, such as pulsar glitches, and advance understanding of exotic phases of matter like high-temperature superconductors.
