In a study, researchers simulated trips to Mars and beyond using solar sails made with aerographite, achieving impressive speeds. The solar sail spacecraft, weighing up to 2.2 pounds and equipped with 25 ounces of aerographite, demonstrated the ability to raise a small CubeSat's orbit by 1.9 miles solely using the propulsive force of photons from the Sun.
