Astronomers have discovered a mysterious space object in the Milky Way, potentially a breakthrough in black hole study, located in a globular cluster of stars about 235,000 trillion miles away from Earth. The object, found in orbit with the PSR J0514-4002E pulsar, is heavier than known neutron stars but lighter than the smallest black holes, leading researchers to believe it could be a never-before-discovered radio pulsar – black hole binary. The discovery, made using the MeerKAT radio telescope in South Africa, offers the potential for significant scientific breakthroughs in understanding neutron stars, black holes, and objects in the "black hole mass gap."
