The study found that abnormal γ-cleavage of amyloid precursor protein (APP) is the common pathogenic cause of both types of Alzheimer's. The researchers also discovered that different variants of the ApoE gene can significantly impact the risk of developing sAD, with ApoE2 showing the strongest inhibitory activity on γ-cleavage of APP.
