Psychologists in the United States are struggling to meet the growing demand for mental health care, according to a survey by the American Psychological Association. Many psychologists reported longer treatment times and waitlists, with over half having no openings for new patients. The survey also revealed an increase in people seeking help for anxiety disorders, depression, trauma and stress-related disorders, and addiction. The mental health impacts of the pandemic, such as grief, sickness, and changes to personal lives, are contributing factors. Psychologists themselves are experiencing burnout, but many are practicing self-care and relying on peer support to cope with the demands of their work.
