"Biometric Advancements Streamline Airport Security for PreCheck Travelers"

United Airlines has introduced "Touchless ID" technology at Chicago's O'Hare and Los Angeles international airports, allowing TSA PreCheck members to go through security by scanning their faces without showing physical IDs or boarding passes. Passengers can enroll in Touchless ID through the United app by scanning their passports and adding their Known Traveler Numbers, and then opt in during mobile check-in. The technology is currently available for single-passenger reservations for those at least 18 years old, with plans to expand to more airport features. Delta Air Lines has already implemented similar technology at its hubs, and the Department of Homeland Security is testing a self-service screening option using facial recognition and baggage scanning pods at an airport in Las Vegas.

"2023 Sees Surge in Loaded Guns Discovered at US Airport Security Checkpoints"

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) reported a record 6,737 guns seized at airport security checkpoints in 2023, with approximately 93% of them being loaded, marking the highest annual total since the agency's inception. Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport had the most firearm discoveries, followed by Dallas Fort Worth International Airport and Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport. TSA Administrator David Pekoske expressed concern over the high number of loaded firearms, emphasizing that guns and ammunition are strictly prohibited in carry-on bags and reminding travelers of the proper procedures for traveling with firearms in checked baggage. Violators face fines of up to $14,950 and potential loss of eligibility for expedited screening through TSA PreCheck.

Navigating Airport Security: Which Fast Pass is Worth the Cost?

Experts recommend federal programs like TSA PreCheck and Global Entry for frequent fliers during the busy 2023 summer travel season. However, long processing times may make it difficult for new applicants to take advantage before traveling this summer. TSA PreCheck costs $78 for new enrollees and lasts five years, with several credit cards covering the fee as a customer perk. The program aims to cut down screening time in airports, and members don't have to remove their shoes, belts, or light jackets when going through airport security.
